Career Advisory | University of St.Gallen MBA

No two students are ever the same; that is why our career advisory is tailored to suit the needs of each MBA student. We have a dedicated career advisory team exclusive to the full-time MBA. Career advisors are available every day on-site at the MBA building or ready to connect online, depending on where the MBA students may be located.

Career Advisory at the University of St.Gallen MBA Program

At the beginning of your MBA journey, you will undertake a Hogan psychometric test which forms the basis of all career-related workshops, training, and one-on-one sessions. Based on data specific to you, career content, training and one-on-one meetings become more personal and relevant.

Career workshops and training cover some of the following topics:

  • Self-assessments: understanding your skills, values, derailers and developing your own personal career guiding principles known as the North Star
  • Applications: CVs, cover letters, interview preparation and contract negotiation
  • Knowing the market and understanding the work permit process with a focus on Switzerland and Germany
  • Developing your brand, including your online presence (LinkedIn) and being aware of your existing social footprint
  • Networking and preparing you for a strong start in a new job: the first 90 days

Within these sessions, we begin to understand your motivations, career goals, unique character, and life experience, inviting you to open your mind to a world of career opportunities before deciding upon your continued career path. Our goal is to partner with you on a sustainable and meaningful career journey rather than help you land just any post-MBA job.

Students can request one-on-one sessions. The one-on-one sessions include feedback on your psychometric test, as well as career advisory and strategizing. There is no limit to the number of sessions students can request, and career advisors remain available to students once they become alumni after graduation. These one-on-one sessions will enable you to take ownership of your career, both strategically and with purpose. One-on-one sessions can cover topics like how to define your passion, craft your mission statement, present your value proposition, and other technical skills such as focusing on improving the content of your CV, cover letter, or how to conduct contract negotiations.

We will also create opportunities for you to network with companies and equip you with an understanding of how to seize those opportunities for your professional benefit.

Career Advisory is an ecosystem of stakeholders, including students, alumni, corporates, external trainers, and our team. As an MBA student, we expect you to gain awareness and appreciation for this ecosystem and play an essential role in nurturing the relationships so that everyone can continue to benefit over the long term.
