Dr. Michel Grüneberg

Michel is an experienced insurance executive with a distinctive track record in designing and successfully delivering enterprise-wide Transformation Programs and deep know-how in Corporate Strategy Development and execution and Program and project Portfolio Management.  

During his more than 16 years with Zurich Insurance Group, Michel held various leadership positions at local and group levels in Operations, Strategy, Planning, & Performance Management, as well as Program & Project Portfolio Management. He was most recently co-leading the divestment program for Zurich Germany’s portfolio of traditional Life insurance policies in Cologne/ Germany. From 2016-2022, he headed the global Group PMO & Performance Management function at Zurich Insurance Group, overseeing its global capital investments. Before being appointed Global Head of Group PMO, he led several Lean implementation projects within Zurich’s Group-wide Lean Transformation program in Germany and Switzerland. After two years as Global Head of Group Operations Strategy & Planning for Zurich’s then Group Chief Operating & Technology Officer Robert Dickie. He had assumed this role upon his return from Moscow/ Russia, where he led the turnaround program of the Zurich Russia Retail unit from 2011-2012 -- an assignment he still views as his most influential in terms of his personal development. 

Prior to joining Zurich in 2008 as Manager in its Internal Consulting unit, he worked as a Strategy Consultant for Kearney and McKinsey. Michel studied Mathematics at Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA, USA, where he graduated with a PhD in Mathematics and a Master of Science in Financial Mathematics, focusing on Asset Pricing.
