Kleanthis Papanikas

Kleanthis has been a Principal in the internal Consulting Team (iCON) at Zurich Insurance since 2015. He leads Group and country-specific strategic initiatives in various areas, including Business Development (e.g., life, Mid-Market, and bancassurance strategies) and Operations/ Efficiency (e.g., product simplification, cost base rationalization). 

From 2009 to 2015, he was an Advisor to the Governor of the Central Bank of Greece (Eurosystem), supporting top management decision-making and managing the implementation of critical efforts (e.g., setting up insurance supervision and banking resolution). In parallel, from 2010 to 2013, he set up the Private Life Insurance Guarantee fund (portfolio management of insolvent life insurers) and served as its first Chairman. 

Kleanthis was a Deputy General Manager of Products, Marketing, and Channels (2007-2009) at Emporiki Bank (member of Credit Agricole Group) in Greece. He worked at McKinsey & Company (2000-2006), where he reached the level of Associate Partner, focusing on serving financial institutions in Greece and the Middle East. Between 1998 and 2000, Kleanthis was one of the founders of a Telecommunication Company in Greece and served as its first CEO. 

He holds a BSc in Mathematics from the University of Ioannina, Greece, an MSc in Operations Research from the University of Southampton, UK, and an MBA from INSEAD, France.
